Chinese designer Daizi Zheng has come up with a concept mobile phone that can be recharged using soft drinks. Zheng reportedly was inspired by bio-batteries which generate electricity from carbo-hydrates found in soft drinks.

This is a concept phone that is being designed for Nokia ! Also known as the Nokia Green Phone. Bio batteries powering the phone will only need any sugary drink. Enzymes are used to turn the drink into water and oxygen which powers the cell phone.

The bio battery can run three to four times longer than regular batteries and is also completely biodegradeable (coke duh !).

Enough of me trying to talk more about it. Just head over Coke-Powered Phone and read the actual report.

If you thought Prison Break was over the top, wait till you read this. Craig ‘Lazie’ Lynch was serving a seven year sentence for aggravated burglary in Hollesley Bay Prison, Suffolk. He managed to escape from the open prison on 23rd September and has been on the run since. However, this is where the story gets surreal. Instead of hiding, Craig has been regularly posting status updates and photographs on Facebook.

Craig has close to 1300 friends and more than 11,000 fans on Facebook. Recently, he even celebrated his first Christmas on the run.

YES YES i f****n made it to Xmas i beat their f***n system and i love it. I love you all my family my friends my lovers and all my supporters and fans i love the whole lot of you x x your the best merry xmas merry xmas merry xmas ho ho ho.

Through his antics Craig has managed to build a fan following, attract media attention and embarrass the establishment. It will be interesting to see how long he manages to stay on the outside. Being the attention freak he is, I get a feeling that he will soon get too adventurous and end up getting caught.

There are number of ways to convert a colorful photo into a black & white image (like free tintii filter). To add more jazz and style to final image you can experiment by converting image into black and white visual but retaining few specific colors in different areas of the image. Doing this will take lot of time and efforts in Photoshop but “Photo Black & Color” program makes this a simple procedure.

Turn photos into Black & White except few colors

1. Download Photo Black & Color program [930KB].
2. Install and launch the program for use.
3. Goto File > Open(or press Ctrl + O) to open any image.
4. Click on parts of image with colors that you want to retain in final image (those colors will be shown in window at bottom left).

5. Then goto Actions > Execute to see photo turned into black and white image but retaining selected colors in the final image. Simple, quick and impressive results, what say?

Story Something (beta) is a website which doesn’t deny our young ones that ‘adrenalin rush’.

The tagline for this children’s website reads – for the hero in all of us. So first, Story Something is an online destination for personalized and customized children’s stories.

create a story for kids

Second, it takes mental numbness out of the equation when your child asks you to tell a tale. You don’t have to scratch your head and jog your grey cells to remember a nice well timed story. Story Something has a whole kingdom full of ideas to create a story for kids.

Well, nothing’s new so far. Hold on before you turn the page.

Third (and more importantly), Story Something lets you personalize the stories in its story bank by changing the names of the characters to your near and dear ones. Enter your child’s (or children) name and the names get substituted for the one that’s in the story.

a story with your kids

Similarly, you can put anyone you want in place of the other principal characters.

create a story for kids

So the child who is listening to the story becomes the central character (the hero or the heroine) and the entire adventure plays out with him in the lead.

The stories come in two styles –

Some are the normal types where you substitute the names and the story flows from the beginning to the end.

The second type is where the child (or you, the storyteller) can choose between two outcomes. These are longer and more interactive. The choice between the two paths directs the story to further adventures with more choices in the next pages.

create a story online

Selecting the stories which you want to occupy your kid with is so easy with the stories arranged around the male or female characters, themes from adventure to sports and finally by age groups (2 years to 10 years).

You can read aloud the stories from the screen (though that does something to the image of pillow reading before sleeping) or better, take a printout and read it from there. Right now in the beta phase, the site promises to email stories only once a week.

Personalizing the stories is simple fun. The storytelling is better for it. It doesn’t take a psychology PhD to understand that a child can learn and absorb better with familiar names and characters. The harried parent also doesn’t have to come up with a new story each day.

Reader Humaira writes in, “I have always wondered why clocks, watches, timepieces etc. always say (roughly) 10:10 before you set the correct time? If you go in a store selling any kind of time-telling device, that is the default factory setting. Why is that?!!”

First things first, let’s get the myths out of the way. There are plenty of people out there who think that clocks in advertisements and in-store displays are set this way memorialize Abraham Lincoln/John F. Kennedy/Martin Luther King Jr. because that was the time at which they were shot or died. In reality, Lincoln was shot at 10:15 p.m., and died the next morning at 7:22 a.m., JFK was shot at 12:30 p.m. CST and was pronounced dead 1 p.m. and MLK was shot 6:01 p.m. and pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m.

Another theory has it that 10:10 was the time that an atomic bomb was dropped on either Nagasaki or Hiroshima, and the setting is in memory of the casualties. The Fat Man bomb was actually dropped on the former at 11:02 a.m. local time and the Little Boy on the latter at 8:15 a.m. local time.

grandfather-clockThe real reason for the setting? Aesthetics. The 10:10 position gives the clock or watch a number of benefits:

• The hands not overlapping, so they’re fully and clearly visible and their styling can be admired.

• The arrangement of the hands is symmetrical, which people generally find more pleasant than asymmetry, making the product more appealing to customers.

• The manufacturer’s logo, usually in the center of the face under the 12, is not only visible, but nicely framed by the hands.

• Additional elements on the face (like date windows secondary dials), usually placed near the 3, 6, or 9, won’t be obscured.

According to the folks at Timex (who set their products at 10:09:36 exactly), the standard setting used to be used to 8:20, but this made the face look like it was frowning. To make the products look “happier,” the setting was flipped into a smile (occasionally, you’ll still see the 8:20 setting on some clocks or watches where the manufacturer’s logo is at bottom of the face above the 6).

Vouwwow [Dutch] – to pronounce as Vow Wow and which I would translate as Wow it Folds – is a cardboard strip that is easy to carry, easy to fold into a chair and easy to produce.

Vouwwow can be taken to the park or an event, anywhere that you would want a chair. I can also see temporary events use this cheap transportable chair. Vouwwow by Maartje Nuy and Joost van Noort won the Thonet / Mart Stam prize [Dutch] for innovative chair design.
